[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Congrats! You finally signed up for your first yoga class! Building up the courage to sign up for your first yoga class can be challenging, so you’ve already done a lot of work. Your next step is to make sure you have everything you need to feel comfortable and confident about your practice. Here are a couple of things you should bring to your first yoga class:[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

A Yoga Bag of Essentials

There are 6 things you should have handy in your yoga bag. Take notes because each of these items will help you feel prepared for class:

  1. Yoga Mat: This particular mat is great for beginners because it is non-sip and has extra thickness for comfort.
  2. Microfiber yoga mat towel: Mat towels provide you with stability by preventing sliding during practice, especially if you are practicing outdoors or doing hot yoga
  3. Towel: It’s nice to have a towel near to pat down during breaks or use the towel as an eye cover during the final meditation during some classes.
  4. A bottle of water: This is a non-negotiable. Try to stay hydrated, especially during your first class. Though yoga is often about relaxation, you are still moving continuously and exerting energy.
  5. Yoga Bag: Any bag that can carry your essential items will do. Yoga bags are also an option and they come in various sizes and styles. We recommend this yoga mat bag because it can fit all of your essentials in it.
  6. Comfortable Clothing: Some people prefer to find something cute for their first class and others just wear a t-shirt and leggings. Make sure you feel comfortable! Try your clothing on before class, do a couple lounges and touch your toes as a test. If your clothes begin to slip change into something with more compression. If you can’t move much, find clothing that is a bit loose.

An Open Mind

If you have never practiced yoga before then you will want to have an open mind to the experience. Sometimes instructors teach a specific type of yoga and use terminology that may be unfamiliar to you. You may also be asked to try movements that feel unfamiliar in your body. Listen carefully to how the instructor describes the way your body should move and transition between positions. And if that doesn’t work, be open to confusion and try again. Yoga is all about honoring your body and connecting breath to movement. So take a deep breath, open your mind to something new and stretch!  [/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
